Welcome to Château des Buis…

Our family is one of only two owners of the Château since it was built over 800 years ago. Having taken ownership, some 350 years ago. it has been passed down through the generations. Throughout this period, the Château has been a private family home and not open to the public. However, through its listed status, the Château opens for one day every year to allow the public to view the formal gardens and the ‘Salle des Fresques’ (the room of fresco paintings).

The ‘Château des Buis’ derives its name from the type of box hedging that can be seen around the formal gardens and is typical of borders used in both French and Italian (Italianate) garden designs in many Châteaus and Palaces – including Versailles.
